Background –TAB, PSPB, EAB, Confs Awards Board, Region 8
President IEEE Signal Processing Society President IEEE Engineering Management Society Chair IEEE Periodicals Council Founding Chair IEEE Periodicals Review Committee Vice Chair R8 Technical Activities VP IEEE Educational Activities Bd I have had the good fortune of serving 8 years on the TAB, four years on PSPB, four years on the Awards Board, and four years on Region 8 committee. This has given me a unique insight and understanding of the workings and motivation of these Boards, indeed of the IEEE in the large. In each case I have delivered achievements that have had a long term impact. TAB – Periodicals Review Committee –improving quality and timeliness of journals and transactions Establishment of Technology Management Council AWARDS –Two IEEE level Medals –Kilby Medal in Signal Processing and RSE Maxwell medal –unique achievements PSPB – early proponent of electronic publishing, R8 Review of sections for effectiveness. Industry liaison group Not worked on standards Board ,but on liaison with standards, standards education initiative, elearning library, standards magazine. Mladen - first recipient of the new joint IEEE EAB and SA Standards Education Award. “for educating students and engineers about the importance and benefits of interoperability standards 7-Apr-19

Position statement Specific Support for industry members
Support for members and their careers Specific Support for industry members Enhancing skills base. Support and extend career enhancement initiatives – CPD International Panel of Chief Executive/Technology Officers - for greater engagement with industry. Encourage more practitioner-driven and practitioner-oriented conferences. Promote job fares at IEEE Conferences. GOLD members- Career support through Virtual Network of Mentors. For continuing professional development -61 partners, 14 outside US, offer over 6000 courses, in 2010 over 700 members took 550 courses. Elearning library offering close to 300 courses. For advice on industry needs - As in Signal Proc conference in feb2012 Virtual network of mentors Student support role of Chapter chairs, greater integration Support guidance of student members to make life choices in terms of career opportunities

Position statement Technological lead and development Promote IEEE global presence in areas such as Green Technologies; Smart Grid, Cloud Computing; Life Sciences, Cyber Security, Technology Management, Social Media, Transportation, and Energy. New approaches to publications - Mass customization of technological information- This offers a new business model for publications - customer-needs driven and user focused -Multi-lingual journals - serving members world-wide and opening new markets for IEEE products- major enhancement of Xplore products. Managing the lead on specific topics, interdisciplinary approaches. On subject area that will not only maintain the technological lead, I areas of growth and impact. Requiring new arrangements. Publications –Mass customisation – business models. CE briefs , multilingual journals –starting by publishing multilingual abstracts – e.g.. When I was Publisher at the Project Mgt Institute, the CEO decided to translate the certification exam and companion textbook (which I was in charge of) into 9 languages. Membership increased from 65,000 to 222,000 in 2 years. I'm a firm believer that IEEE should translate "selectively" and use it to increase the visibility of IEEE in emerging markets or to use a translation of a sampling of IEEE articles as a renewal or subscription premium

Position statement Support for Globalization
Focused support for Regional Activities Deliver IEEE’s Humanitarian Vision, - with UNESCO **, World Federation of Engineering Organizations; Engineering for Change, Royal Society of Edinburgh Inspire an interest in the excitement of engineering in school learners through global Teacher-In-Service Program. EPICS Promote Jump into IEEE (Junior Membership) Multilingualism 1. Member benefits Affordable New models a strong offer. Offering additional benefits currently available to US members to be accepted to members in other parts –ripple effect –Western Europe and further afield –Same Insurance companies. 2. President’s Internship scheme –for international development. Building on EPICS success and globalising it through best practice sharing. Mainstreaming activity. This is a first in the civil engineering field as an open-source set of materials and ideas to help engineers plan and deliver infrastructure for international development, poverty alleviation and the UN MDGs. Working with UNESCO, RSE, WFEO , E4C, e.g current WFEO UNESCO initiative on ICT in Education on China. JUMP 5. Innovation Academy building o n RSE relationship, TMC, HKN, IEEE Foundation, e.g. links to ¾ IEC-IEEE GLOBAL ACADEMIC CHALLENGE LAUNCHED TO PROMOTE INNOVATION AND JOBS WORLDWIDE
