Steps leading up to now... PSAT/SAT testing College searches
Attend college fairs Narrow your list of colleges to 4-6

What now??? Finalize your college list ~ determine which colleges to apply to. Choose up to 4-6 colleges in a range of selectivity levels Include colleges that are target, reach and less competitive schools ~ consider GPA, rigor of program, test scores, profile of most recently admitted class Use web-based resources to narrow your list of schools (refer to Internet College Search Resources handout)

Invite Recommenders How many does each college require?
Complete the Letter of Recommendation Request form electronically or on paper. Ask teacher(s)/school counselor to write letter and provide a copy Letter of Recommendation Request form. Please give a minimum of 2 weeks notice before application deadline. Invite Recommenders electronically if using Common Application and/or other electronic applications

Write Your College Essay
Common Application essay prompts can be viewed at It is only 650 words, but colleges want to see that it is well-written Ask for assistance from English teachers and other adults to proofread your essay. Start early and leave time for rewriting.

Athletes Apply to NCAA if you are being recruited by a Division 1 or Division 2 school. Ask your School Counselor to send your transcript. Send your SAT scores directly from CollegeBoard. Registration fee is $75; or fee waiver if qualified

Apply to College! Complete Application & Essay if applicable
Send test scores directly from College Board Pay application fee; or submit fee waiver if qualify Contact your School Counselor to request the following: Transcript Secondary School Report Form EFHS Profile Quarter 1 and/or semester 1 grades

Paying for College Attend Paying for College Night - October 25, 2017
Complete FAFSA/VSAC Grant by college specific deadline Apply to scholarships (on-going) ~ VSAC Scholarship Book available November 1. The scholarship book .pdf is available on the VSAC website: CSS Profile ~ Required by some colleges. Available October 1st; cost $25/$16

Decision Time Many colleges will require a decision about your acceptance by May 1st. You will need to pay a deposit to reserve your spot at that college or university.
