3. School Uniform School Uniform
No jewellery, except stud earrings and a watch.
Please have children’s name on all parts of the uniform, including PE kit.
Remember children must bring in their Winter PE kit when the weather gets colder.

4. Behaviour
Children are expected to follow the school rules and the school mission statement.
Children must speak English whilst in school.
If pupils do not follow the rules they lose golden time - whole school policy.

5. Healthy Eating
Please ensure that your children have a water bottle and a healthy school lunch each day. Please ensure they eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school.

6. Homework Information will be on ‘myUSO’ every Friday.
Grammar- grammar SATS test at the end of the
year.
Spellings and sentences- please ensure children think of sentences with conjunctions/adjectives. They must practise the use of joined up handwriting and correct use of grammar.
Maths sheets- SATS books will be used as well as sheets to print at home.
Children will receive homework every Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday. Please put a date/name on all work.

7. Assessment
Year 2 is a very important year for your children. Just like year 6, children will have SATS tests. These tests assess children on what they’ve learned so far, so therefore it is important that children are secure in year 1 and year 2 objectives.
Assessment is teacher judgement and results of SATS test.
Tests take place in May.

9. Writing Teachers will make a judgement on pupil’s independent writing.
It must include all aspects of year 1 and 2 grammar and spelling. They must achieve every objective to meet the standard.
Important aspects: joined up handwriting, grammar and tense, spelling of common exception words and words which follow rules.
English is important! Reading books, watching English TV and speaking English will allow children to expand their vocabulary range and therefore develop better ideas for their writing.

13. Grammar and Spelling
Grammar homework will prepare children for grammar test. Spelling assessment will include common exception words and words which follow rules. E.g. dancing (drop the e when adding ing) Swimmer (double the consonant when adding er)

15. Reading Two reading papers. Children must read at home to someone.
It is vital to test children's understanding through questioning.
There are higher level words on the reading paper, therefore it is vital that children are hearing, reading and speaking as much English as possible to prepare them for these tests.
Children who read, speak and watch English TV will have a better vocabulary range and therefore a better understanding when reading and writing English.

Children must answer questions mentally and with writing calculations.

19. Maths paper 2: Reasoning This is more difficult as pupils have to read the problem, understand it and use the correct calculation.

20. Ways to help Ensure children do their homework every week.
Give them as many opportunities as possible to hear, speak and read in English at home.
Reading to your child every day and listening to them read – ask questions about the text.
Mental maths- adding, subtraction, multiplication and division (1, 2, 3 ,5 and 10 times tables).
