9.1 Cellular Respiration: An Overview
2
Chemical Energy & Food Organisms get the energy they need from food.
calorie-energy needed to raise 1 g of water, 1 degree.
3
Overview
4
In/Out Light DEPENDENT
Water NAD+ ADP Out O2 ATP NADPH
5
In/Out Light INDEPENDENT
ATP NADPH **CO2 Out NADP+ ADP Sugar
6
Overview of Cellular Respiration
CR -release energy from food in the presence of oxygen. 6O2 + C6H12O6 6CO2 + 6H20 + Energy Oxygen +sugar carbon dioxide+water+energy
7
Cellular Respiration has 3 stages:
Glycolysis-in cytoplasm (2ATP) Krebs Cycle-in mitochondria (2ATP) Electron Transport Chain-in mitochondria (32 ATP)
8
In cytoplasm In mitochondria
9
Oxygen & Energy Aerobic-CR that requires oxygen (Krebs & ETC)
Anaerobic-CR that do NOT require oxygen (glycolysis)
10
Q: What is the relationship between photosynthesis & cellular respiration?
A: Photosynthesis removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and CR puts it back. Photosynthesis releases oxygen into the atmosphere, and CR uses that oxygen to release energy from food.
