3. KEYS TO SUCCESS HOST SUPERVISOR Contact the other Administrator prior to the game to review any concerns you or THEY might have… Review any specific characteristics of the site or past experience with your opponents that warrant attention or special arrangements prior to the contest

4. KEYS TO SUCCESS HOST SUPERVISOR Be sure to arrange for adequate security for all home events. Brief security on your expectations for them before, during, and after the contest. Have them positioned in areas where you anticipate problems or in highly visible areas of the venue Have security regularly patrol the parking lots particularly following the conclusion of an event.

5. KEYS TO SUCCESS VISITING SUPERVISORS Wear clothing that identifies you as a staff member of your school. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the event and introduce yourself to the other schools supervisor and the officials. If available, obtain a walkie-talkie from the home school or exchange cell phone numbers for use in emergencies.

6. KEYS TO SUCCESS VISITING SUPERVISORS The Visiting supervisor should help enforce local rules with his/her students, parents and fans. Find out what those rules and expectations are BEFORE the contest begins. Student spectators should be required to remain in their designated rooting section throughout the event. Unruly adult fans should be also be seated in your schools section initially or moved to the rooting section during the event if their behavior becomes disruptive.

7. KEYS TO SUCCESS Be sure that coaches and/or ADs are supervising players in locker rooms, before the game, at half- time, and particularly after the game. Frosh and JV coaches need to closely supervise their players during the varsity contest (not be on the bench /sidelines with the varsity coaches). Be sure a coach or another appropriate school person is supervising the loading of the bus following the competition. Students should not be on the bus without an adult either on the bus or near the door to the bus to observe any post-game incidents that may occur.

8. KEYS TO SUCCESS Assist in keeping the court or field clear at half-time and after the contest. You can do this by moving to the sidelines in front of your rooters. Periodically check on restrooms and/or locker rooms. During play, supervise from a position to observe student behavior in the stands.

9. KEYS TO SUCCESS Identify the area for your cheerleaders well before the contest and direct them to stay in the designated area. Help direct your schools supporters to the designated seating sections and then position yourself close to your schools rooting section, where you can see and be seen! Confiscate artificial noise makers, laser pointers, or other devices that could disrupt play and are against CCS Sportsmanship Policy. Remember: If it wasnt issued at birthits artificial and cant be used to make noise during a contest!

10. KEYS TO SUCCESS Be proactive in encouraging positive rooting and immediately reactive in discouraging negative rooting. Be prepared to speak to students or adults rooting for you school who engage in negative rooting behavior. If needed, move and then remove disruptive individuals from the venue.

11. KEYS TO SUCCESS Only positive signs are allowed at all contests in the CCS. Make sure your cheerleader advisor is aware of the restriction about negative signs before cheerleaders go to all the work of making a sign that must be removed. If your opponents rooters are displaying negative signs, please call this to the attention of their supervisory personnel. If a sign must be removed, dont rip it off the wall…remove it carefully and roll it up.

12. KEYS TO SUCCESS At the end of the contest, meet at a pre- arranged location with the supervisor from the other school in order to keep groups apart. Both schools should provide additional supervision when a large crowd or volatile situation is anticipated. Help supervise the parking lot at least 30 minutes after the conclusion of the contest.
