Presentation on theme: "A Brief Exploration of Recalls"— Presentation transcript:

1 A Brief Exploration of Recalls
Part I: Major Product Recalls To what extent are product recalls solutions and to what extent are they “damage control”? Are recalls a Catch-22 for companies? As an attorney, how would you advise manufacturers to avoid being impacted by the negative effects of strict liability? Part II: Recall Resales Do you support holding resellers (retailers and/or third-party hosts) accountable for damages from the aftermarket sales of recalled items? Explain. Are there any ways companies can help prevent resale of their faulty products? How can consumers work to protect themselves from these dangers?

2 A Conclusion to Introductory Civil Law
Part I: Using any available online resources, create an organized chart listing 6-8 different items that have been recalled in the past 20 years. For each item, you need to include the following: A brief description of the item recalled, including the intended purpose of the item; the name of the company who produced the item; the reason for the recall; the company’s solution (replace, repair, retrofit, refund, etc…); the source of your information. Part II: Create a neat, organized study guide that outlines and highlights essential ideas found in Chapters 17 (Torts), 18 (Intentional Torts), 19 (Negligence), and 20 (Strict Liability). Your study guide can include, but is no way limited to: essential concepts, specific categories/types of each tort, important vocabulary, and examples/case studies that illustrate pertinent types of civil cases. For each individual chapter on Civil Law, you must also have 3-5 “essential questions” that should be answerable only by someone with an understanding of that section of study.
