2. The coordinate plane is like a map formed by two number lines, the x-axis (horizontal) and the y-axis (vertical) that intersect at the point (0, 0), the origin (center of the graph).
Ordered pairs (x, y) are the points on the map. The x-coordinate and y-coordinate of an ordered pair tell which direction to go from the origin.
You always go ACROSS FIRST, then go up or down.
