1. English Courses in Grade 9
Making The Right Choice

3. English 9
For students not planning to take IB first language or AP English courses.
Focuses on developing written, reading, research and oral skills as well as improving vocabulary and grammar.
Literary analysis is developed through reading in several genres, including the novel, short story, poetry and non- literary texts.

4. English 9 Advanced
A required course for students who are planning to take either IB English A: Language and Literature, IB English A: Literature, AP Language, AP Literature.
Prepares students to take first language IB and AP English courses.
Combines the study of literary and non-literary texts.
Emphasises academic writing, speaking and analytical skills.
Suggested minimum MAP scores of 900 Lexile and 220 RIT.

5. Transitional English 9 For second language students of English.
This course is taken instead of English 9.
This course is mandatory for those EAL students that the school decides need to take it.
Students develop their key speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
