Graphs of real-life situations
A5.3 Core Plenary Guy has to sketch a graph which tells this story. A woman cycles up a hill steadily, rests at the top and then freewheels down the other side. Here are three of his attempts, which (if any of them) is correct? Why? Preamble This particular activity should highlight for pupils some of the popular misconceptions surrounding the interpretation of graphs. Possible content Interpreting ‘real-life’ graphs. Resources None. Solution/Notes All three graphs are wrong. If there is sufficient time, pupils could be asked to sketch the correct graph.
