6 ITE Key priorities 2018-19 To increase:
Student teacher confidence and competence for TS2 – Pupil Progress, with a focus on progress for all learners Student teacher confidence and competence for TS5– Differentiation, including those who have special educational needs, are disadvantaged and the higher attaining pupils Student teacher confidence and competence for TS6 – Monitoring and Assessment with particular reference to how assessment can be used to adapt teaching to maximise pupils’ progress Student completion (and maintain recent improvements) on the PGCE University centred and School Direct routes Student teacher confidence in relation to systematic, synthetic phonics (particularly those on the Upper route)

7 ITE Key priorities To develop the quality (and perception of) student assessment and feedback To action a revised mentor and link tutor development strategy   Increase student teacher confidence and competence in teaching pupils with English as an additional language and pupils from all ethnic backgrounds Increase consistency of opportunities for trainees to teach, assess and receive feedback on subjects other than English, mathematics and science Increase the diversity and number of schools within the partnership (to include Grade 3 schools, disadvantaged areas, diverse populations) to allow for a range of placement opportunities for all

8 Revalidation events All programmes will be revalidated in May for new programmes to begin in September 2019 PGCE 2 modules at Masters level, one professional studies module and one curriculum module, both with 30 credits, an option of a non-QTS award

Professional studies every year with key themes on professionalism, safeguarding, meeting the needs of pupils, behaviour and class management, planning and assessment for pupil progress, theories of learning and teaching No changes to school experience Earlier focus on research in year 2 Year 3 electives: EY, Thinking and PfC, creativity, digital learning, learning outside the classroom

11 Mentor Development Strategy update
Vision and principles identified by SMG Face to face is important A tiered approach to professional development using a blended approach Mentor is a key part involved in the education of student teachers Link tutor engaged in supporting mentors in professional development Secondary and primary colleagues working together Materials available from September 2019

12 Link tutor update Shared appraisals:
the purpose of these is for us to be confident that the student is being accurately assessed in all lessons that the mentor undertakes if a student does not have a shared appraisal in one SE, they may not be assessed accurately guidance is being sought from SMG about any changes required to expectations for primary students
