Guidelines and Expectations for Anatomy & Physiology
Getting Started Guidelines and Expectations for Anatomy & Physiology
2
Introductions My name is Teresa Rogers. I am a registered nurse as well as a teacher and have been teaching since I hope you'll enjoy learning as much as I do!! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, teaching yoga and playing keyboard with our praise and worship team. I have spent 40 years in both nursing and education. I began my career as a registered nurse in 1980 and spent 12 years working in local hospitals and long term care facilities. I completed my bachelor’s degree, with an emphasis in career & technical education, at Morehead State University and spent 15 years teaching Health Sciences which included courses such as Medical Terminology, First Aid & CPR, Anatomy & Physiology and Medicaid Nursing Assistant. After earning a master’s degree in special education from Campbellsville University in 2004 and a Rank I in 2006 and spent several years teaching special education at the elementary and high school levels. I know that you'll find the study of anatomy often leaves us with more questions than answers. As each new piece of learning leads us to a deeper understanding of a concept it opens doors to deeper understanding and inquiry.

Digital Citizenship Be yourself, but be careful about what you share.
Give credit where credit is due. Don’t use all caps. It reads as if you are shouting. Be an active member. Speak up. Be mindful of your tone. Sarcasm and humor often read as inappropriate online. Communicate clearly, respectfully and with empathy.
4
Expectations Online courses, especially a subject such as anatomy and physiology, are just as difficult - or more difficult - and may be more time consuming than traditional courses. Although I’m available if you have questions, the heavy load of learning will be on your shoulders. Expect 3-4 hours online work plus an additional 3-4 hours homework & study per lesson. Read each chapter and complete homework activities that support your style of learning. Complete online activities in a timely manner. Keep your instructor informed of circumstances that may substantially interrupt your progress.
5
Communication Communication is key to succeeding in an online course.
Check the LMS message board for course messages and reminders. I can be contacted by I will return your within 24 hours. For more immediate concerns you may text me before I will reply as soon as my schedule allows. You will occasionally be asked to participate in an online discussion or meeting as part of your course work. Please follow the guidelines for digital citizenship in all communications.

Course Objective #2 Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of body systems.
10
Course Objective #3 Recognize and explain the principle of homeostasis and the use of feedback loops to control physiological systems in the human body.
11
Course Objective #4 Use anatomical knowledge to predict physiological consequences, and use knowledge of function to predict the features of anatomical structures.
12
Course Objective #5 Recognize and explain the interrelationships within and between anatomical and physiological systems of the human body.
13
Course Objective #6 Synthesize ideas to make a connection between knowledge of anatomy and physiology and real-world situations, including healthy lifestyle decisions and homeostatic imbalances.
