ANNOUNCEMENTS 2/12/19

BLACK HISTORY MINUTE Who Am I?
I was born Lesane Parish Crooks in New York City on June 16, 1971, but I grew up primarily in Harlem. My parents moved to Baltimore, Maryland where I became good friends with Jada Pinkett Smith. In 1988, my family moved again to Oakland, California. My first breakthrough in music came in 1991 as a member of the group Digital Underground and my stage name became well-known.

BLACK HISTORY month Who Am I?
In the same year I received recognition for my first album which was the beginning of my notoriety as a leading figure in the “gangster permutation” of hip hop. I am not liked by individuals who are into the more traditional sounds because my music is considered loud, violent, and controversial. My solo movie career started with the movie Juice, and I also co-starred with Janet Jackson in the movie Poetic Justice. I was unable to fulfill the promise of a successful career in both the movies and music before I was shot and killed.
