Nanoscale structure in colloid-polymer solutions
Eric M. Furst, Department of Chemical Engineering University of Delaware (ACS PRF G7) Depletion The nanometer scale structure of colloid-filled polymeric materials depends on complex interactions and correlations between the components. By measuring the motion of micrometer-size particles, we determined the transition between dilute and entangled regimes for a semiflexible polymer solution and identified the formation of polymer-depleted layers near the particle surfaces. Our results are in good agreement with recent theoretical models. For more information, see: “Colloid dynamics in semiflexible polymer solutions,” J. Y. Huh and E. M. Furst, Phys. Rev. E, 74, (2006).
