The Active Shooter Response: Seconds Save Lives All active shooter response training centers around the same premises: Time and factual information are the keys to mitigating an active shooter threat Communicate the threat and it's exact location to authorities and building occupants as quickly as possible. Provide continuous, updated information so both law enforcement and people in the threatened area can make informed decisions to mitigate the threat and save lives. In an Active Shooter Incident, Every Second Counts 4-6 minutes: Average time to dial 911 12.5 Minutes: Average duration of an active shooter incident 18 Minutes: Average response time of emergency response/law enforcement DECREASED RESPONSE TIME DECREASES INCIDENT DURATION DECREASES LOSS OF LIFE In Columbine, the first reliable 911 call stating shots were fired occurred 6 minutes after the first shot. In those first 6 minutes 12 students and faculty had already been killed or wounded.
