Classroom News:
We have had a very good new year so far. Students are starting to get back into the swing of things. We have changed the schedule a little bit. Students will be having writing and science every other day instead of every other week.
Please try to help your child remember all their outdoor gear. We will go outside for recess as long as the temperature is above zero. We are collecting extra mittens and gloves. If you have some extras floating around please send them in. (We have lots of hats)

2. What we are Learning! Math O.G. Reading Writing Science
This week we put together everything we have learned so far about how to become super smart about a nonfiction topic when we read. We read about the moon together and students read about their own topics .
It was a busy week. We practiced measuring, writing 3-digit numbers and counting coins. We were introduced to the near doubles strategy (Double the smaller number and add 1. For example 3+4=3+3+1). We compared numbers using <,>, and = symbols.
We were introduced to the f,l,s,z (flosz) rule. The rule is any one syllable word that ends in f,l,s, or z and has a short vowel gets an extra f,l,s,or z at the end (cliff, bell, miss, buzz).
We created books about the moon. We also wrote about the topics that we became super smart about in reading.
In science we learned about why the moon “changes shape” and what the phases of the moon are. We also learned about how it orbits the earth and what it is made off. We created moon pictures.
