1 Editing Lesson 1

2 EDITING AND YOUR GRADES
Dividing grades for not being with group during post production. While editing, grades will be lowered if part of the group is not working. You must be with the group and engaged in the editing decision-making process. Even if you are not pressing the buttons, you must be there. Even if you are working on something else, you must be there.

3 THE CONFUSING THING… For any group with 2-3 members, that group will have one (1) editor who will present the final project. For any group with 4 or more members, that group will have two (2) members who will present final projects. That means… Put the raw footage on TWO DIFFERENT computers… TWO EDITORS edit the SAME FOOTAGE on TWO DIFFERENT computers… That group hands in TWO PROJECTS, each with a different editor (whose name is on the slate (graphic with info at head of project). TWO EDITORS so if one is absent, the group does not get an F for the day.

4 You’ve been warned! Names and Definitions EDITING GOALS: Be organized
EDIT: to remove that which is not wanted from raw footage by using an editing software RAW FOOTAGE: a series of unedited shots EDITING SOFTWARE: a program installed in the computer that pieces together segments of audio and video to produce a finished, edited work ADOBE PREMIERE: your editing software EDITING GOALS: Be organized Work Flow = Quick Work Have a thick skin/be open to criticism Try anything/experiment Always ask questions If/when you can, back everything up! SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! (ctrl-s) You’ve been warned!

5 Computer guidelines Username: tv-production@somersetacademy.local
Password: Thebridge201 You cannot install anything You must say “later” or “no” if asked to update You cannot play games If you have a problem – restart If problem continues – tell Mr. E and he will tell Enrique If you cannot copy a file it ALSO may be that you are viewing it (in Quicktime or something; or even single-clicking it for a preview)

6 Computer guidelines Folders on desktop (if not created, we will create now): 20__-20__ Raw Footage>Period 1,2,3,4,5>Your Group Name Folder>Project Names>Date/Scene (put your raw footage here) 20__-20__ Final Projects>Period 1,2,3,4,5>Your Group Name Folder Projects are saved to a default location – DO NOT CHANGE THIS! Do not save Premiere Projects to your personal folders because if you do, then EVERYONE’S Premier Projects will be saved in YOUR folder. Projects save to this default location: Users>tv-production> Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>12.0> here Sequence settings: AVCHD p/60fps How to check: SD>Private>AVCHD>BDMV>STREAM>files are here.

7 WHERE DO I PUT MY RAW FOOTAGE?
This is where you should put your raw footage: DESKTOP>20__-20__ RAW FOOTAGE>PERIOD__>YOUR PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME>PROJECT NAME>DATE/SCENE Your Production Company Name Project Name 20__-20__ Raw Footage Period ___ Date/Scene

8 WHERE DO I PUT MY RAW FOOTAGE?
You will have multiple Project folders in your production company folder. You will have multiple Date or Scene folders in the Project folder Presidio 10-5 10-6 10-7 Later on, you will be importing these folders into Premiere. E. E. Productions Advent SFX Exported FX Sound Music Camera Roll 1

9 WHERE DO I PUT MY FINAL PROJECTS?
This is where you should put your final projects: DESKTOP>20__-20__ FINAL PROJECTS>PERIOD ____>YOUR PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME Final Projects Period ___ E. E. Productions RIP Productions Period ___ Film Productions Cake Productions

10 HOW DO I NAME MY PREMIERE PROJECTS?
This is how you should name your Premiere Projects: MOVIE (or MUSICVIDEO or PACKAGE (aka. Project Type) - TITLE - PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME SPECIAL NOTE: Notice the “space - hyphen - space” protocol in between each element of the saved name. This is IMPORTANT! Movie - Presidio - EEProductions Musicvideo - Thriller - EEProductions Package - SalazarInt - EEProductions You will do this EITHER when you make a new project OR when you do FILE>SAVE AS.

11 HOW DO I NAME MY EXPORTED PROJECTS?
This is how you should name your exported Projects: MOVIE (or MUSICVIDEO or PACKAGE; aka. Project type) - TITLE - PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME - TRT TRT: Total Run Time 4 digits which represent Hours, minutes or seconds Movie - Presidio - EEProductions Musicvideo - Thriller - EEProductions Package - SalazarInt - EEProductions

12 WHY DO WE NAME LIKE THIS? This is how you should name your exported Projects: MOVIE (or MUSICVIDEO or PACKAGE; aka. Project type) - TITLE - PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME - TRT Don’t just name your project “murder one”—everyone else will, too. We use your production company name so it will be unique. We use space - hyphen - space because if we try to look for your production company (Ex. “Cake”), computer won’t find it because it would be “-Cake-”—as opposed to “- Cake -” where “Cake” is alone. But make sure you spell it the same—have had people look for their production company name, but spell it WRONG! HOW CAN WE FIND SOMETHING IF IT’S SPELLED WRONG?

13 WHAT IF I LOSE MY PROJECT?
YOU WON’T!! I have created built-in safety precautions so you will not lose your projects!! (you’re welcome) The naming system for your projects will make your project unique so it: Won’t get lost (you can always find it) Won’t get accidentally over-written or deleted So name your projects properly and they won’t get lost. Don’t just name your project “murder one”—everyone else will, too. Refer back to this naming system often to avoid problems!

14 WHERE DO I PUT MY PROJECTS (if it’s not in the right place?)
DEFAULT LOCATION FOR PREMIERE PROJECTS? FILE>SAVE>Users>tv-production> Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>12.0> here Name the file and put it in this location (click “Save”) When I’m finished putting the necessary folders on the desktop, there should be nothing on the desktop except for the Raw Footage folder, Final Projects folder, SFX folder (maybe), and maybe the Action Essentials folder (maybe).
