As part of her university course, a social studies student writes a blog. Her most recent blog post is about her frustrations towards her mother. Her mother has been unwell for the last two months. The student encourages her mother to take time off work and rest. The mother refuses. The student knows from her PSHE lessons in school the symptoms of meningitis and believes her mothers symptoms fall in alignment with this. When the student tells her mother what she thinks, her mother belittles her and insists she is wrong. The student informs her father and siblings, who too encourage the mother to attend the hospital. She refuses. A few days later the mother collapses and is rushed to A&E, where the doctor informs the family the mother does in fact have meningitis and must rest. The mother follows the doctors orders. SOCIAL

Sam has to write a persuasive essay on capital punishment
Sam has to write a persuasive essay on capital punishment. He has read a scenario which outlines the brutal murder of a child. The two individuals who conducted this act of violence; an 8 year old and his older brother who is 19 years old. Sam argues 19 year olds should know right from wrong, and so this person knew what he was doing when he conducted the murder. And so, he should be sentenced to death. Sam also argues the 8 year old, being so young and vulnerable, could not have fully understood what was happening. And so, should not be sentenced to murder.

A researcher recruited 24 volunteers, 12 of whom were non-Bingo players, and 12 of whom were Bingo experts. Their task was to complete 15 games of Bingo. While this was happening, their brain states were being monitored by an fMRI scanner. The fMRI results showed a correlation between the number of games won and activity in the left hemisphere. In that, the more games a person won; the higher the activity. The researchers explained this emphasising the importance of ‘shouting out’ when you have ‘Bingo’.
