5. Foundation High School Plan
The purpose of the FHSP graduation plan is to….
Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce (ex. Welding, Cosmetology certifications).
An Endorsement is similar to a college major. Completion of an Endorsement will allow students to graduate from high school with knowledge and/or experience in the college major they wish to pursue.
Students can earn an endorsement in one of the following areas:
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
Business and Industry
Public Services
Arts and Humanities
Multidisciplinary Studies

9. COLLEGE CREDIT Dual Credit (D) Advanced Placement (AP)
Students have the opportunity to receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. There is a fee ($90 average cost) to take an AP exam for college credit. It is important that you check the AP credit policy at the college of choice to confirm what score is required in order for credit to be awarded.
Students may receive college credit if they pass the course with a college grade of a “C” or better.

The AP Program allows students to take college-level courses and ex­ams while in high school. A strong score on the culminating exam may result in college credit or placement.
Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit . In order to earn college credit, the course must be passed with a college grade of a C or higher.

College credit may be awarded depending on the student’s score on the AP examination. Individ­ual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, determine course credit and placement.
High school and college credit through Lone Star College (LSC) or UT On Ramps is awarded when the student passes the course.
 College/ University Acceptance
Accepted at thousands of universities around the world. Typically requires a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if AP credit may be awarded.
Accepted at public (and some private) colleges and universities in Texas as well as many outside of Texas. Requires a semester average of a college grade of C or better for transferability. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if Dual credit may be awarded.

Deadlines to be aware of: -Request a dual credit course in Choices 360 -Submit qualifying TSI test scores or test exemptions to Mrs. Zinnia Deleon by April 18th. -Deadline to submit summer dual credit course request – April 18th. -Deadline to submit enrollment forms for the school year Dual Credit program – May 3rd.

14. College Algebra Dual Pre-Calculus Dual
-Year long class with dual enrollment -No requirement for enrollment except taken and passed Algebra 2. Students do not need to see Mrs. Deleon for enrollment in UT On Ramps classes, College Algebra and Pre-Cal. -No fees at this time (subject to change) -Student will get two grades –high school grade and college grade. Students can choose if they want the college grade to count on their college transcript. -Student will have two teachers *UT professor for online assignments, quizzes and tests which will make up the college grade *AHS teacher to provide academic support and assigning high school grade -Students will get to decide in December if they want to continue the course for high school and college credit or just high school credit

17. Important English Requirement
The Foundation High School Plan (22 credits) and four out of five Endorsements on the Foundation High School Plan with Endorsement (26 credits) allow the fourth year of English to be a course other than English 4. The four endorsements which allow this are: -Arts and Humanities -Business and Industry -Public Service -STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) *While students can take English 4 as their additional English, other courses are offered which meet the requirements for a student’s 4th English. *Atascocita HS offers Business English as additional English which does meet the TEA requirement for graduation under the Foundation HSP with Endorsement. *However, it is important that you check with the colleges you will be applying to in order to see if English 4 is a requirement as some may still require or recommend English 4.

Counselors will be working with Juniors to complete their course selections in Choices 360 on February 6th and 7th
Students will have until February 15th to make any changes in Choices 360 to their course selections.
Confirmation of Course Selections for the school year will be given to students in April and then again in May. Corrections will need to be written on the verification sheet and returned to their house counselor by the due date No elective changes will be made after the last day of this school year. No elective changes will be made at flight school.

Semester grades are viewable in HAC. Any student not passing a course will need to make a plan for credit retrieval prior to SENIOR year.

26. Athletes…Don’t Forget…
ATHLETES…You will need to complete the necessary NCAA Clearinghouse forms online at

Student-athletes must be certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse
before receiving an athletics scholarship, practicing and
competing at a division I or II institution.
The class of 2017 and thereafter will be required to complete at least 10 core courses by the end of their junior year.
It is extremely important for athletes to pass their courses the first time and to earn C's or better in every core course. Credits recovered via credit recovery or through Strategic classes are NOT approved by NCAA. Schedule a meeting with your counselor if you are registering with NCAA and need to recover courses.
