1 UpTurnships: Upturning college students into the best new hires.
I’d like to tell you about UpTurnships, a local non-profit that turns diverse, under-resourced college students into the best new hires, and as you will see, this is a very, very large problem our community faces. UpTurnships is asking for $11,200 for one-time IT assistance to evaluate, install, and customize three software platforms crucial for their future expansion.

A nonprofit lead by business professionals volunteer their time (1 paid staff) What We Do Recruit Train and Coach Find highly motivated college Juniors and Sophomores paying for college who want a paid summer business internship Train the UpTurns on key skills employers are seeking and coach for success in their internships Screened by experts: Referred by our network Screened for CliftonStrengths, skills, motivation, giver-mentality Find hidden accomplishments Prepared: Assigned a coach and receive 3-4 hours of training Matched to jobs by pros Make it easy for employers Paid Training (15 days) Communications Problem Solving Managing Multiple Priorities Soft Skills Career planning Professional Coaching: 1:5 Ratio of coach to interns 12 weeks, plus ongoing until secure full-time job

11 Partnering with UpTurnships
Key Elements Provided by Employers 12 week paid internship with at least 1 project in their field Direct supervisor who provides ongoing direction & feedback Willing to send intern to UpTurnships and pay for training days (15 days) Contact Julie Burrows at or with questions. Internship Costs Estimate Paid to Intern $5100 wages At internship 4 days/week (43 days) In Training at UpTurnships (15 days) Minimum $11+/hour (Higher in some cities) Paid to UpTurnships $2,000 For-Profit or $1,250 Nonprofit Participation fee Total Estimate $6,350- 7,350 Note: Employers can extend internships by working directly with the candidate. 70% continue working in the Fall.
