2 Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
Psalm 107:22 Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

3 Studying Genesis Genesis 4: Sacrifices and Sin
READ: Genesis 3:6-13, 20-24

4 The First People Adam & Eve and their (many) children Intermarriage Longevity The building of cities and towns

5 The First Sacrifices Coming of Cain and Abel - The two offerings - Cain’s response - The first murder - Cain’s cursed wandering - God’s sign of protection

6 The First Sacrifices 1. We must offer God what HE desires 2. We need to have a good attitude 3. Sin will always become known 4. There are consequences to sin

7 The Right Sacrifices We need to offer God what HE wants - Our lives as living sacrifices – Romans 12:1-2 - Sacrifice of the fruit of our lips – Hebrews 13:15 Not what we want to give The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17

8 The Right Attitudes Bad attitudes lead to evil behavior Root of bitterness – Hebrews 12:15-16 Anger – James 1:20 Jealousy – James 3:14-16 (Be) not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous. 1 John 3:12 Heb 12:15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; 16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. Jas 1:20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Jas 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

9 Making Sin Known Sin has a way of becoming evident
- Done in secret – Ephesians 5:12 - God desires that we repent - God desires that others fear sin "But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops” Luke 12:2-3 Eph 5:12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.

10 Sin Has Horrible Consequences
The wages of sin are spiritual death – Romans 6:23 Sin also ruins lives now - Breaks up home - Causes us to be alone - Causes us to lose promises For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. Jude 1:10 Jude 1:10-11 But these men revile the things which they do not understand; and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and

11 Reputation of Cain and Abel
Cain becomes the model of the world - It wants to pursue God its own way - It despises those who seek God His way Abel becomes the model of righteous men By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks Hebrews 11:4 Jude 1:10-11 But these men revile the things which they do not understand; and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and
