What does PERIODIC TABLE mean?
Periodic-organized, based on time, repetitive Table- Chart Ex: the Periodic Table is a Calendar of the elements.

What is the PERIODIC TABLE?
Shows all known elements in the universe. Organizes the elements by chemical properties.

Why do we have the Periodic Table?

How is the Periodic Table organized?
The elements are sorted by their PROPERTIES (characteristics)

Groups on the Periodic Table
These are the VERTICLE columns (up & down) Groups are numbered 1-18 Each group has: Same number of electrons available for bonding (helpful in making MOLECULES)

Periods on the Periodic Table
These are the HORIZONTAL rows (side to side) Period numbered 1-7 The Period Number is the same as the number of electron rings

Types of Elements Metals Nonmetals
Solid at room temperature Conduct heat and electricity Example: Silver (Ag), Iron (Fe) Nonmetals Gas at room temperature Does not conduct heat and electricity Example: Helium (He), Oxygen (O) Metalloids (also called Semi-metals) Can act as both Metals and Nonmetals
