1 RED NOSE DAY IS ON FRIDAY 15 MARCH
Use this PowerPoint to help you deliver a Red Nose Day assembly or tutor time session in your school. It will help students understand why they are fundraising and inspire them to raise money for Red Nose Day 2019, which is on Friday 15 March. The assembly has been designed to take around 10 minutes to deliver. Use the prompt questions in the notes to extend the presentation and make it interactive. On Friday 15 March, we’re going to have some fun for Red Nose Day 2019! The whole school is going to come together to raise money that will change lives.

2 LET’S HAVE SOME FUN AND DO SOME GOOD
We’re going to have a lot of fun, and do some good at the same time. Last Red Nose Day, schools around the UK raised over £5 million. That’s an incredible amount of money that Comic Relief used to help people here and in the world’s poorest communities.

3 FIND THE FILM AT COMICRELIEF.COM/LEILA
WHY ARE WE RAISING MONEY FOR RED NOSE DAY? Watch the video to find out more. Show students this short film about some of the challenges faced by four young people living in a refugee camp in Serbia. The future for the young people is uncertain but with the help of Comic Relief cash, the Refugees Foundation – Serbia is supporting their learning with English and Serbian lessons, as well as day trips away from the camp. You should be able to stream the film from this presentation by clicking on the play button. Please ensure that external content is enabled. If you experience any problems with this you can download the film (or stream it) at comicrelief.com/leila After watching the film you could have a discussion with your pupils about Leila, Soheil, Narges and Afshin and some of the issues raised by the film. You could use the questions below as prompts. Questions Where do Leila, Soheil, Narges and Afshin live? Why do they live there? What do you think would be the hardest thing about their lives? What would you miss most if you were in their situation? How is money raised by Red Nose Day making a difference to these young people? FIND THE FILM AT COMICRELIEF.COM/LEILA

SO HOW SHALL WE RAISE MONEY THIS RED NOSE DAY? If you already have plans for other fundraising activities, share them with the students now. What shall we do? Can anyone remember fundraising events we’ve organised in the past (e.g. baking, dressing up, sponsored challenges)? Can you think of any new ideas for this year? 5 HOW WILL OUR MONEY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
£3 could cover the cost of crayons, pencils, paint and paper for children living in a Serbian refugee camp. £8 could cover the cost of school books and stationery for a child living in a Serbian refugee camp. £36 could pay for a week of hot, nutritious meals for a family living in a Serbian refugee camp. £310 could pay for a month of language lessons for children living in a Serbian refugee camp. As you’ve seen from Leila’s story, Red Nose Day money changes lives for the better. That’s why so many people come together to fundraise for Red Nose Day. And that’s why we’re going to do our best to raise as much money as we can. How much of a difference will our school [tutor group] make if we raise £100? £300? £500? How would you choose for different amounts to be spent?

6 £1 could cover the cost of a hot meal for a homeless person in the UK.
AND HALF THE MONEY YOU DONATE WILL BE USED IN THE UK Money raised for Red Nose Day is used to help people in the UK too. 50% of Red Nose Day cash is spent in the UK. £1 could cover the cost of a hot meal for a homeless person in the UK. £220 could pay for a one-on-one support session to boost the self-esteem and aspirations of a vulnerable girl in the UK.
