1 Do Now Week of

2 Monday 1. What is the relative humidity inside the cloud?
2. What process is forming the cloud? 3. As the cloud forms, is energy absorbed or released to the air? 4. What makes this cloud so tall?

3 1. If saturation occurs and dewpoint temperature
is – 10 0 Celsius, what will form? 2. Why do clouds form at different heights on different days? 3. What is the dewpoint temperature when the air temperature is C and the wet bulb temperature is 8 0 C? 4. And what would the relative humidity be?

4 This picture is a ‘cloud tsunami’ rolling along over Lake Michigan
This picture is a ‘cloud tsunami’ rolling along over Lake Michigan. There is no mountain under the clouds. Why does the cloud form on the surface of the lake? If there is a sailor on the water inside the cloud and he is using a sling psychrometer, will the wet bulb thermometer temperature drop a lot or a little? Why?

5 1. Using page 13 ESRT, what is the value of 1 atmosphere pressure in millibars? In inches of mercury? 2. Convert mb to inches of mercury 3. If the air is very hot and humid, will the air push down more or less on the mercury in the dish? 4. Will the barometer be rising or falling?

6 Air pressure questions.
What are 2 characteristics of heavy air? Of Light air? What air is rising: heavy or light? High pressure or low pressure? Why does wind blow?

7 Fronts Define ‘front’. What is the air like that moves into a region after a warm front passes? What frontal boundary looks like this? Why do clouds form at fronts?

8 Weather maps What is the difference between an isotherm and an isobar?
Which way do weather systems move across the US? Draw an image of the winds around a low pressure system. Draw an image of the winds around a high pressure system.

9 Station models (have ESRT out)
What page of the ESRT shows the symbols for station models? What units are temperature and dewpoint temperature in? Describe the winds, cloud cover and precipitation for this station model:
