2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES YOU WILL…
Learn how to use basic tools on Adobe Photoshop to generate an appropriate image for the lino printing task.
Learn to respond to the work of Angie Lewin.
Learn how to create a successful 4 colour reduction lino print.
Remember to use lino cutting tools properly and safely to reduce the risk of harm.

Photoshop work
IN ORDER TO CREATE YOUR OWN REDUCTION LINO PRINT YOU WILL NEED TO GENERATE AN IMAGE FIRST ON PHOTOSHOP

5. LINO PRINTING
Once you have printed your Photoshop image, you will need to transfer this image onto your lino block.
You will need a photocopy of your 20x20cm image to make it 30x30cm (the size of the lino)
Now, take a large sheet of tracing paper and draw out all of the sections that you wish to use – remember you will only use 4 colours, so be more selective now of the shapes you choose to use.
Once done, turn the tracing paper over on top of the lino and scribble firmly over all of the lines to transfer the drawing onto the lino.
Now go over all of these lines again in biro.

6. LINO PRINTING – HEALTH & SAFETY
REMEMBER….LINO PRINTING CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU DO NOT DO IT CORRECTLY.
You will be using:
A bench hook
Lino cutters
A craft knife

7. LINO PRINTING – HEALTH & SAFETY
Always keep your hands behind or away from the lino tools
Allow the bench hook to take the pressure of the cutting.
You should always turn your lino around so that you are cutting closest to the bench hook edge, this stops the lino from bending and causing injury.

8. LINO PRINTING
IF YOU HAVE A PALE FIRST COLOUR AND NO WHITE, YOU NEED TO PRINT YOUR ENTIRE BLOCK FIRST IN THIS COLOUR. You will print this onto 4 separate sheets of paper.
IF YOU DO HAVE WHITE SECTIONS IN YOUR IMAGE, YOU NEED TO START BY CUTTING THESE OUT FROM YOUR LINO.

9. LINO PRINTING
EVERY TIME THAT YOU HAVE PRINTED YOUR COLOUR, YOU THEN CUT AWAY THESE SECTIONS FROM THE LINO AND PRINT THE NEXT COLOUR. REMEMBER….YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WORK LIGHT TO DARK

10. homework
Lewin copy:
Now that you know how to produce a 4 colour reduction print, you will need to produce your Lewin copy for your influence page.
To do so, you will choose a small section from one of her pieces.
You will use the block printing inks again, but this time you will use a piece of polyboard and the process of press-printing (which will be a lot quicker to do).

11. Peer-assessment Lewin transcription:
Swap your best Lewin inspired lino print with another person in the group (someone you haven’t worked with yet).
Looking at their piece,
write your details on top
of the sticker.
Now, write your feedback
for WWW (what works well)
and EBI (even better if)
Hand their work back with the sticker you have given feedback on.
