Good morning parents! Fundamentals
2
The rationale for the removal of levels
The Problems: Depth and breadth of understanding sometimes sacrificed in favour of pace. In fact… ‘Sometimes progress is simply about consolidation’. Pupils compared themselves to others and encouraged a mind-set of fixed ability. The Benefits: Pupils - reflect on their own progress, understand what their strengths are and what they need to do to improve. Parents & carers - focus on the content of the curriculum provides clearer sense of how to support children to build and consolidate learning.

All children must meet all the fundamentals of each year group.
Children are expected to achieve 85% of the yearly fundamentals.

By the end of year 1 they should be 2.0 – ‘Year 2 ready’.
If a child in year 1 can do 60% of the fundamentals this is recorded as 1.6. By the end of year 1 they should be 2.0 – ‘Year 2 ready’.
