9 Writer’s Workshop Quarter 1: Narrative Writing
Students will begin with a mini-lesson / skill. Students will then apply the writing skill in a daily activity. Students will also be called to meet with the teacher to set individual / differentiated writing goals in a conference. Students will also have the opportunity to publish written work on the computer as well as practice typing skills. Quarter 1: Narrative Writing Quarter 2: Informational Writing Quarter 3: Persuasive Writing Quarter 4: Review All

10 Math Curriculum Students will participate in Math Workshop model
mini-lesson, M.A.T.H centers, closing Differentiated centers with student choice while teacher works with small groups Students will take informative & summative assessments. Assessments may determine small groups for skills. We will review any missed concepts from post-test. Students will have a chance to re-test.

11 Math Facts Goal This year 2nd grade is changing the way we assess math facts by assessing fewer problems and have a focus on the time to complete. Keep practice FUN at home and find what works for your child. Focus on PERSONAL BEST and GROWTH MINDSET Details coming soon…..

12 Orton-Gillingham: A Methodology for Teaching Reading & Spelling to ALL Students!
Whole class & small group lessons Differentiation in reading and spelling based on student ability No “spelling tests.” As we teach a phonics rule or pattern, students will read & spell words with that rule or pattern. Assessment through dictation and application of phonics rule/pattern. (ex. –ck rule) These words do not need to be memorized. Trick words: words that do not follow a rule or pattern. MUST BE MEMORIZED for reading and spelling. 3 Trick words will be introduced at a time and will be memorized for spelling and reading. (ex: said) Your donations at work.

13 Reader’s Workshop Balanced Literacy Approach
Start with a mini-lesson for the whole class. Activity to apply skill: group, partner, or individual. Guided Reading: small group instruction, books are on your child’s reading level, books may go home in BEE folder for reinforcement – please return next day (so we can read them again). Strategy groups to work on reading strategies.

15 Homework Read 20-30 minutes each night Study math facts
Occasionally, work will be sent home if it was not completed in class OR if a student needs additional support Just be together as a family!

16 Snack/Birthday Treats
Please send in healthy snacks. No candy or juice. Only water is allowed in the classroom We have NO PEANUT ALLERGIES Birthday treats will be distributed in the cafeteria during lunch. You may send the treat in early or come during lunch!  Please have birthday treats pre-cut, and ALL THE SAME.
