Black Bull at the Lascaux Caves
Art Lesson Grade: Kindergarten Activity: Prehistoric painting Key words: Stone Age Earth colors Texture Supplies Brown paper bags or brown craft paper Black Crayon, Earth tone chalks or oil pastels, Hair Spray (as a fixative) 9 x 12 Black construction paper for mounting Blurb Art Guide Prep: Make copies of enough blurbs for class Paste on the back of black construction paper Cut brown paper slightly smaller then then black construction paper and then tear edges. Uneven edges are great. Hands On Art: 1. Give each student a brown paper and have them rumple it up and then smooth it out again. This is “their” cave wall (Texture). 2. Put on each work station- black crayons and a mixture of chalks or pastels. 3. With a black crayon have them draw the body of an animal . An oval is perfect, tell them like a jelly bean. Have them add neck, head, legs, horns tails, etc.. 4. Have them fill the animal with chalk.

5. Fill the background with a few other designs like, a camp fire, arrows, other animals or people. 6. They sign or you can print their name on the back. Finish and Display: Each drawing must be sprayed with hair spray. Please do this outside. When dry, glue to black construction paper with the blurb on the back. Write child's name on front, if it is not already on the front. Display on board outside of classroom *Make sure when you take down this lesson it goes into the students portfolio.
