Pray for those affected by Hurricane Harvey can continue to trust God in the midst of this devastation. Merciful: What is the definition of merciful/mercy?
Can you give synonyms to it? Mercy is a concept integral to an understanding of God's dealings with humankind. Isaiah 30:18 Merciful εύσπλαχνος Readiness to help those in trouble The attitude of God towards sinner Can you give me an example of when God showed you mercy? Mercy: The tender-hearted, compassionate, kind, and beneficent, who, being inwardly affected with the infirmities, necessities, and miseries of their fellow-creatures, and feeling them as their own, with tender sympathy endeavor, as they have ability, to relieve them Isaiah 30:18: Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

Blessed are the merciful…
Why do you think God has called us to be merciful? Luke 6:36 For you personally is it easy to show mercy to others? Why do you think it is hard to show mercy towards others Why in society do we judge others? Matthew 7:1-5 With that in mind why do you think God has called us to be merciful? Luke 6:36 (esv) 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. Luke 6;36 (MSG) 35-36 “I tell you, love your enemies. Help and give without expecting a return. You’ll never—I promise—regret it. Live out this God-created identity the way our Father lives toward us, generously and graciously, even when we’re at our worst. Our Father is kind; you be kind. Our Heart should break for what breaks God For you personally is it easy to show mercy to others Why is it hard? Matthew 9:13 “Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” It is not something we are born with. we tend to be more quick to judge others than to love those who need love Why in society do we judge others? Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. This is wrong. We aren’t suppose to judge others. Think about it. God is merciful, we deserve so much more judgement on ourselves. We deserve to be thrown in hell, but God loved us so much he gave us mercy, so if we are daily pursing Christ we should purse to have his characteristics.

For they will receive mercy mercy….
Imagine a world where everyone showed mercy. How do you think our world will look like? Matthew 5:7 (MSG) What is one way that you can show mercy this week? Home? School? Community? Imagine a world where everyone showed mercy. How do you think our world will look like? The truth is as long as there is sin in the world there will never be that kind of peace, but like we talked about last week about righteousness we can do the same with this verse. We will never have a perfect world, but we can strive for it. We need to do our part It is a chain reaction Matthew 5:7 7 “You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.

Tips to have in mind.. Focus your eyes on God and who He is
Hebrews 4:16 Having a heart like Christ Remember our goal here on earth Philippians 3:14 What is our goal as Christians? Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” what is our goal? To pursue Christ and holiness Personally for me when I have my mind focused on Christ being merciful or gentle to others is much easier.

Challenge/Journal Question
Challenge: After asking the question “what is one way we can show mercy this week” you all answered. Take one of the ways this week and put it into practice. Not to receive anything in return, but because God is calling you to. Journal: Journal on what happened/how it made you feel when you showed mercy. And also journal/reflect on times God has showed you mercy.
