2 Desired Outcomes Gain an understanding of how Chromebooks and Google Suite are being utilized in classrooms Gain an understanding of parent access options and resources for Google Classroom and PowerSchool Gain an understanding of resources available to support social studies instruction at home Explore with Google (optional)

3 What is a ChromeBook? Android device
Extremely limited storage on the device No Microsoft Office Suite (need to use Google Suite) No programs - use APPs Google Drive (cloud storage) One-to-one ratio in the classroom Not a take home device Bring a Chromebook to model- can be shown/passed around for parents to see the actual device -Small laptop- major difference being the storage capabilities and structure -Students log-in to one of these devices using their Google username and password -Automatically syncs all of their materials in Google Suite for Education -Roll out dates- 3rd grade - this semester, 4th grade- last spring, 5th grade SY

4 What is Google Suite? GOOGLE MICROSOFT Drive My Documents Docs Word
Spreadsheets Excel Slides PowerPoint Drawings Paint Forms ----- It is Google’s answer to Microsoft Office. It is cloud/app based as opposed to program based. Google does have Gmail (as most of us are familiar) however students do not receive access to . Their username and password will resemble that of an , but gmail is disabled. The major apps that students will interact with are listed here. The main platform they utilize to access these resources is called Google Classroom- a virtual classroom setup and maintained by teachers

5 Google Classroom Use Laptop, Desktop phone, or Chromebook to access
Learning Management System Assignments Announcements Question (Multiple Choice/ Short Answer) Calendar Introduce to various aspects of classroom -Tour a classroom from the perspective of a student account (asked Jessica T. to add me as a student) -Let’s explore!

6 How to Access Google Account at Home
Model for parents by Logging out and signing back in to show what would happen -Have handouts prepared for helping them to Log in -Remind that access at home should not include altering or changing any student work- but it is a great opportunity to stay abreast with what kids are doing to increase support at home

7 How to Access PowerSchool at Home
Remind parents that Google Classroom will not necessarily contain accurate grade information for students. Most teachers in 3-5 use it as a place to house work/assignments and not a place to actually score items. All official grades are still located in PowerSchool which can also be accessed by parents. Model accessing powershool- handout? Remind that if they have never utilized this service before that they will need to go to the office to obtain usernames and password infromation (ID required)
