Step 1: Mark the text as you read the prompt. Be sure to use metacognitive/annotation markers.

Step 3: Circle the verbs.
Step 4: Number all of the paragraphs.

Step 2: Identify three reasons to support your thesis.
Step 3: Make sure your third reason includes your opposing claim (counterclaim).
Step 4: Identify three pieces of textual evidence for each reason. So you will have 9 pieces of evidence total.
Step 5: Develop your conclusion.

Step 1: Using your graphic organizer, construct your essay in sentence form.
Step 2: After you have written your essay, go back to the “Be sure to:” in the writing task while proof reading your essay. Make sure you check off that you have completed each bullet.
