Acts chapter 3 Questions & Answers
2
Acts chapter 3 1. In Acts 3:1, why do you think it gives us the hour that Peter and John went into the temple? This incident fits the day of atonement where Acts 3:19 echoes Isa.44:22 and repentance is counselled. Acts3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Isaiah44:22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. Also Christ died the ninth hour opening the way for forgiveness of sin. (see Mat.27:46,50) Matthew27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me

Acts chapter 3 2. T/F The lame man who sat at the temple gate asking alms was over forty years old. True - Acts 4:22 plus 40 is the number of probation and the lame man could well be a type of future Israel who was lame and now healed. Acts4:22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was showed.

Acts chapter 3 3. Why didn't Peter and John have either silver or gold to give the lame man? The 1st century ecclesia had all things in common so the common purse wouldn't have been with them. Acts2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Acts chapter 3 4. Why do we not follow the example of the first century ecclesia and have all things in common? Because of the weakness of human nature socialism doesn't work well. Many nations have tried and with time they become poorer and poorer. In the 1st century ecclesia the apostles had the holy spirit and were able to discern, as in the case of Ananias and Sapphira who tried to take advantage of the situation but even here socialism didn’t work and with time there was the Jerusalem poor fund Acts 24:17. Today we have neither the apostles or the holy spirit to help discern evil so no wonder socialism doesn’t work.

Acts chapter 3 5. How did the lame man show his faith?
The lame man showed obedience to Peter's command and took the apostle's hand, v.7. Acts3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Acts chapter 3 6. Give THREE scriptures that support we are to have an occupation and work? 1TH 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 2TH 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. ACT 18:3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. 2CO 11:9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

Acts chapter 3 7. Is it wrong to have a paid minister as the churches do? Support your answer. Christ instructed his disciples in Mt. 10:11 to take hospitality given; however, again because of human nature, it often is better to not be dependant on any man or ecclesia. Paul was not dependant upon the Corinthian ecclesia for this reason.( 2Co.12:15) 2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.

Acts chapter 3 8. In Acts 3:12, Peter is quick to give God the glory for this miracle. Who in the Old Testament wasn't quick in giving God the glory for the miracle He performed? Moses but note the cause was not self glory but frustration cause by these rebels. The exhortation to us that we can cause our brother to not enter the promise land! NUM 20:10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

Acts chapter 3 9. T/F Peter's 2nd sermon in Acts 3 was about 3 hours long. TRUE - Acts 3:1 - ninth hour = 3 PM to eventide Acts 4:3. Acts 4:3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
11
Acts chapter 3 10. List at least four main points which Peter makes in his 2nd sermon. It wasn't them that made the lame man to walk, v.12. That they had delivered up Jesus, the "Prince of glory" to be crucified, v.13. Repent and be converted, v.19. Jesus raised and in heaven until the times of restitution, v.21.
12
Acts chapter 3 11. Why did the people continue to listen to Peter even though he stated they had delivered up the "Prince of life" when Pilate wanted to let him go. They were amazed at the miracle to the lame man. Peter spoke using Old Testament prophecies that showed "Christ should suffer", v.18. That it was through their ignorance that they delivered up Christ, v.17.
13
Acts chapter 3 12. Why did Peter call Jesus the "Prince of life" in Acts 3:15? Because of what Jesus accomplished in his life, of perfect obedience for he destroyed the power of sin to reign supreme causing eternal death, Heb. 2:14. He therefore became the prince or leader of eternal life, Heb. 2:10. Hebrews2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
14
Acts chapter 3 13. In Acts 3:16, the name of Jesus is stressed twice. What is the meaning of having faith in his name? Acts3:16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. The name of Jesus contains all that he accomplished in destroying the power of sin to reign supreme, opening the way of salvation. We show our understanding of this by praying through the name of Jesus. This understanding and belief is so important to our salvation that Peter takes this opportunity to stress it.
15
Acts chapter 3 14. T/F The Jews killed Jesus because of their ignorance. True, v. 17 Acts3:17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
16
Acts chapter 3 15. Re: Acts 3:18 - Give three prophets who prophesied that Christ should suffer. Isaiah, Isa. 53 David, Psa. 22 Zechariah, Zech. 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
17
Acts chapter 3 What is meant by the times of "refreshing" in Acts 3:19? Acts3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; "Refreshing" speaks of the earth being renewed upon Christ's return and the ushering in of the Millennial age. This is best described in Psa. 72:6; Isa. 51:11 and Joel 3:18.
18
Acts chapter 3 17 What is meant by the times of "restitution" in Acts 3:21? Acts3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. "Restitution" describes the restoration of the nation of Israel and the fulfilment of the many Bible prophecies concerning it like Psa. 102:13,14,16; Eze. 38:11; Mt. 24:32.
19
Acts chapter 3 18 Re: Acts 3:22 - Who was the prophet that Moses spoke about in Deu. 18:15 and why does Peter refer to him? Acts3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. "That prophet" is the Lord Jesus Christ in whose name the lame man was healed, and who is at God's right hand and, like Moses, was acting as a mediator. The reason Peter made reference to him was so that the people might recognize their Messiah and repent.
20
Acts chapter 3 Where does Samuel speak of "that prophet" as mentioned in Acts 3:24? Acts3:24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. The answer usually given is 2 Sam.7:12,13 of David's greater son, but Nathan gave this prophecy after Samuel's death. 1Sam.2:35 could be but it is difficult to interpret. 1 Samuel2:35And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
21
Acts chapter 3 20 Name three prophets after Samuel who spoke of "that prophet". Include also the chapter where these prophecies are found. Zechariah -- Zec. 11:12 Daniel Dan. 9:26 David Psa. 22:18
22
Acts chapter 3 21 The Jews rejected Jesus in the first century and it is prophesied that the Gentiles will reject him upon his return. Give a Bible prophecy that shows the Gentiles will reject him upon his return. PSA 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, PSA 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. PSA 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
