4 About 5% to 10% of all cancers are thought to be related to
American Family Financial Association    About 5% to 10% of all cancers are thought to be related to  gene mutations that are inherited or passed down through the family. Having an inherited genetic mutation does not mean a person will get cancer. It means they are at a higher risk for developing a certain type or types of cancer. A type of testing called Predictive Genetic Testing is; Usually recommended when certain types of cancer run in a family and a gene mutation is suspected.

Or, if any relatives on one side of your family have had the same type of cancer. If a cluster of cancers in your family are known to be linked to a single gene mutation (such as breast, ovarian, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers ). * A family member has more than 1 type of cancer. Family members have had cancer at a younger age than normal for that type of cancer.

9 How To Get Your Screening
American Family Financial Association    How To Get Your Screening Complete the Scope of Appointment (SOA) This form gives me permission to speak with you regarding the Screening process; To ask you a few questions regarding your family’s health history as well as your own; Allows me to check your Medicare Plan. Connect you to a Clinical Admin The Admin will get the proper documents completed and Connect you to a Clinition for final screening to determine if you will qualify for the Genetic Test. Collect DNA – Cheek Swab If approved, the Clinician will direct me to do a Cheek Swab. I will send your DNA to the lab for testing. Your Doctor will share their findings with you and your PCP. It takes approximately 2 weeks to get the test results.
