Choosing Your Path What are your interests?
Path details: Visit for ideas. Start the Pathways Assessment: Answer the questions – should take 20 minutes Assessment displays 3 recommended paths Can take assessment as many times as you want Prior to selecting a path – review the projects available in that path! Path Details: District 4 Catalog at You have 30 days to change a path once you select one Once you have changed a path, you have to wait 1 year to change Pathways Assessment – Recommended for 1st time Pathways users! Select 3 topics you’re interested in learning about Answer 24 questions – takes 20 minutes or so to complete Assessment displays a recommended path Self-Assessment Results Displays 3 paths based on choices selected from self-assessment Members can still elect to take any of the 10 paths – including one of the 3 paths recommended by the assessment Suggestions If you’re brand new to Toastmasters, I would encourage Presentation Mastery Electives (starting with Level 3) are available to all regardless of any path selected 15

PRESENTER: This is the Base Camp Main Page Point out the Toolbar: Home, Tutorials and Resources, Check Compatibility Point out the Search Bar, the Universal Profile next to it, and the Gear Icon (where to log out) Proceed to next slide to explain further Mention to disable to pop-up blocker. If the “Disable Pop-up Blocker” message appears, go ahead and show how to disable it and refresh the browser 19

What Can You Do from Here?
General information on using Base Camp Provide feedback to members using badges and comments Point to the “blue tiles” and explain what they’re used for. Let audience know that evaluations in the Speech Evaluation tile are in alphabetical order and are identical to the Evaluation Resources found in each project. Display badges received and levels completed Contains list of evaluations to use for projects 20

Access Your Projects You can view your path two ways:
Click on the blue “My Education Transcript” – displays all of your projects OR Go to the burgundy “My Education Transcript” – click on Open Curriculum to display your projects in your path In the blue My Education Transcript, you can access your path and track your progress. Find your path and click down arrow next to “Open Curriculum” burgundy button Select “Open Curriculum” to view current level About your Projects Every Path has a curriculum that outlines all projects available for that path A Path’s curriculum shows levels 1-5, and displays mandatory and elective projects in each level Members can review all projects above their current level but cannot launch these projects until they’ve completed the projects in the previous levels 21

PRESENTER: Briefly explain each part of the slide 20% on upper left – each project represents 5% of a path Note levels on left - You can select a level to see projects but cannot access any projects in the higher levels until you’ve completed the lower levels first Demonstrate how to launch a level This figure displays the projects available for a level for a particular path. Navigate Through A Project
PRESENTER: Each Project is navigated as follows: Left Arrow – Previous Page on Project Right Arrow – Next Page on Project Directions – Get additional guidance/information Some screens have additional buttons and navigation that are explained in the Directions tab At bottom of screen is a drop-down menu to navigate through the project. Please let your audience know they need to expand the window large enough to see the project navigation arrows. 23

Completing a Project To complete a Project, do the following steps by navigating through the project: Complete the “Assess Your Skills – Before” section 2. Review the project – information includes tips and techniques to help do the project. 3. Download your Evaluation Resource and print it for your evaluator 4. Give the speech and complete all project activities in your checklist (found under “Your Assignment”) PRESENTER: Open a project and show how to complete a project Also, mention the following: In the “Your Evaluation” section of the project, you can print out/save the following: Evaluation form for project Print outline to complete your project PDF version of project 24

4. Reopen the project, navigate to the “Assess Your Skills – After” section, and complete the section. 5. Congratulations! You’re finished with a project! Locating an Evaluation Form
You can find, print, and bring your evaluation form for a project in one of these areas: Within a Project PRESENTER: Demonstrate how to locate an evaluation form * Use Ice Breaker Project from FAQ to demonstrate where to find an evaluation form from within a project. 2. Generic Evaluation Form
Just in case you forgot your project’s Evaluation form: Bring a Generic Evaluation Form! Go to Speech Evaluations in Base Camp Look for “Generic Evaluation Resource” – print a copy just in case! PRESENTER: Show where the Generic Evaluation form can be found… Have your club print out several Generic Evaluation resources in case a member forgets their project-specific form. 29

Exit from Pathways/Toastmasters
When finished with Pathways, remember to Logout 1. First out of Pathways – click on Gear icon, then log out Located in upper right hand corner of Basecamp. 2. Then click “Logout” to exit the Toastmasters site PRESENTER: Log Out of Base Camp then Log Out of Toastmasters site. The presentation is now complete! 30

Getting a Toastmasters Account
Enter your Username. Must be an address. Leave the Password field blank. Click on “Forgot Password?” You will receive an automated welcome with a link to set up your account 1 2 3 PRESENTER: As with any online tool you will need a user and password to access Pathways For First Time Users: Your address will be your username Click on Forgot Password and Toastmasters sends automated to help set up your account 35

Completing A Level Make sure all of your projects have a burgundy check next to them. NOTE: If you can’t press the Activate button, you must complete all of the projects. Go to the Activate Button and press the down arrow. If your browser doesn’t display the burgundy checkboxes, go to the Level (x) Completion and click the Activate button. Click on “Activate” The button will change from Activate to Launch. 36

Completing A Level Part 2
Click on the arrow to the right of “Launch” Select Launch. A document will appear in a separate browser window explaining how to start the approval process. In the Level 1 Completion Box, select “Mark Complete” The status in the Level 1 Completion Box will change from “In Progress” to “Pending Completion Approval”. The Base Camp Manager will be notified that you’ve completed the Level 1 projects and are awaiting completion approval. PRESENTER: Show what a completed level will look like (include burgundy check button) Your Base Camp Manager (BCM) will receive notification that you have completed the projects and are awaiting completion approval After your BCM submits the approval for Level 1, the status for this level completion item will change to “Completed” You can now view and print your certificate once the Level has been marked as “Completed” 37

Approving a Level through Base Camp Manager
BCMs must approve all Level and Path requests Base Camp uses the Toastmasters International’s Club Contact s to send Base Camp Managers BCMs will do the following to approve a request: Go to Base Camp Manager – select a club, then press “Log In as Base Camp Manager” Select “Pending Requests” Base Camp Manager will approve, defer, or deny the training request. When approved, user may access and begin projects on the next Level PRESENTER: Show how a Base Camp Manager (BCM) approves a project…. BCMs should ideally respond between 48 hours and 5 days to all completion requests BCMs can print certificates to hand out at meetings For Path Completion Requests, need to contact Toastmasters International World Headquarters so they can send a Certificate 38

Submit a Pathways Award through Club Central
After approving a Level, the BCM must go to Club Central to submit a Pathways award after approving the request PRESENTER: Go through the View Pending Request snapshot 1. Name, Training, and Options (check or X) 2. To approve, click on the Green Check 3. Project approved, but one more step remains… 39

Completing a Level Part 3
After the approval has been submitted, the status for the level will change to “Completed”. When your completion has been approved, you may access and begin Level 2 projects You can print a certificate of accomplishment when you complete a level. To view and print your certificate, select “View Certificate” PRESENTER: Summarize information on slide

DTM Comparison To earn the DTM in Pathways, you are required to: 1. Complete two learning paths. Each path consists of 14 projects (15 speeches total) across 5 levels. 2. Serve as a club officer for 12 months and participate in a district-sponsored club officer training program. (If your club has six-month terms for officers, you can fulfill this requirement by serving as a club officer twice, but you don’t have to do it in consecutive terms.) 3. Serve a complete one-year term as a district officer. 4. Serve successfully as a club mentor or coach. 5. Serve successfully as a club sponsor or conduct a Speechcraft or Youth Leadership program. 6. Complete the DTM project. (Members are required to create and implement a project of their own design, in which they demonstrate the skills and expertise they have gained.)

Accessing the Pathways DTM Project
Toastmasters International also indicated that anyone wanting work on the DTM project, for now, has to: Completed 1 path PLUS at least Level 3 in a second path Contact Toastmasters International Education at to request the DTM project be added to their curriculum

The Navigator – Main Menu
The Navigator is a new interactive manual that you’ll reference again and again. The Navigator is your easy-to-use guide to the Toastmasters experience. It walks you through Pathways Defines the club meeting roles Explains who the club officers are and Offers tips and tools to get started. 3. You can view or print it from Base Camp, or download a printed copy from Toastmasters International. You can print a certificate after completing any level in Pathways (one exception) Steps: Click on Education Transcript Select a Path – Click Open Curriculum Select a Completed Level Click View Certificate

Level 3 – One More Step Must complete the following roles at a meeting: Toastmaster of the Day Evaluator Table Topics Master To enter the information (review): Go into Base Camp, click on the gear icon Select My Account Displays Preference Look for a meeting role and enter date Click Save Need to serve the following roles during a meeting: Table Topics Master Toastmaster of the Day Evaluator Need to enter the date when the role was performed into the member’s profile

Pathways Mentoring Program
The Legacy Education program only requires mentoring a new member through the first 3 speeches Gives a false impression that mentoring ends at that point Rather, mentoring is a Toastmasters relationship that can last as long as the two people desire.

The Pathways Mentoring Program brings in more emphasis on mentoring: It is not a path It has one project required in every path Members are eligible to earn an educational award by completing the program Education award counts toward Triple Crown pin but not toward the Distinguished Club Program Can be requested from Toastmasters International after completing the Level 2 “Introduction to Toastmasters Mentoring”

6 Parts: Introduction to Toastmasters Mentoring (Level 2 project, 5-7 minutes) Launch the Program through Base Camp Prepare to Mentor – no speech required Mentoring – mentor a Toastmaster member for less than 3 months Advanced Mentoring – mentor anyone 6 months, 5-7 minutes summarizing experience Mentee doesn’t have to be a Toastmaster Mark program as completed There are 6 parts to the Pathways mentoring program Introduction to Toastmasters Mentoring – required in Level 2 of EVERY path (yes, you will do it every tie you do a new path) a 5-7 minute speech about a time when you were a protégé. Very specific content is specified. “Prepare to Mentor” – a project with no speech required Mentoring – being a mentor to a Toastmasters member for less than 3 months long + a 5-7 minute speech about that experience Advanced Mentoring – being a mentor to anyone (not required to be a Toastmasters member) for 6 months + a 5-7 minute speech about that experience The checkbox to mark the program complete Advanced Mentoring project - some details: Purpose: The purpose of this project is to apply mentoring skills during a long-term mentoring commitment. Overview: Fulfill the role of mentor for a fellow Toastmaster or other person for a period of six months. Communicate regularly with your protégé, record meeting dates and times, and give and receive feedback both verbally and in writing. At the end of your commitment, present a 5- to 7-minute speech to your club about what you gained as a mentor. This speech is about you and your experience.

Path Proficient Employer letters Let your employer know about your achievements with official letters sent from Toastmasters. This is a great way to show them the commitment you’ve made toward personal growth. Employer letters can be requested when you complete Level 3, Level 4 or Level 5 in a path. An from the International President Enjoy a celebratory from the International President congratulating you on your success when you complete a path. You may also request a printed version of this commemorative message from World Headquarters. Path completion Proudly receive the accolade of Proficient for each path you complete. For example: “Toastmaster Sara completed the Motivational Strategies learning path and is now Motivational Strategies Proficient.”
