Climate Change And You How does climate change effect you?
2
What are some of the signs that there is “bad weather” ahead for humanity. Not necessarily the earth, which will always fix itself and find an equilibrium given enough time. Whether or not humanity will be part of that future picture depends largely on how we treat our planet. So now the question is ……..
3
Are you ready? What are some of the signs of climate change that we see happening in our world?
4
What are some of the signs of climate change that we see happening in our world?
Make a list of things the students see happening in the world around them that are signs of climate change and or global warming? Student responses could include: More extreme storms Increases in sea level Drought in areas that are normally wet Floods in areas that are dry Decreased snow cover Ice caps receding Global temperature rise After completing the list and talking about the signs of climate change around us show the students the pictures down to “Slide #11”
5
Deep Snow Storms are more intense giving greater accumulations. On March 18th, 2015 at my home in Chester Basin we received 76 cm overnight and couldn’t get the door open the next morning.
6
Rising Sea levels Sea levels have risen four inches in the last 100 years. As the polar ice caps melt sea levels will continue to rise. How will this effect human habitation in coastal areas?
7
Floods in areas where there wasn’t any history of floods before.
8
Drought in areas where there wasn’t any history of drought before.
9
More frequent storms of greater intensity.
10
Larger storms.

Clean energy means not burning fossil fuels for power production
Clean energy means not burning fossil fuels for power production. What sources of energy can you think of that do not requiring the burning of fossil fuels and are renewable?

This collage of climate change headlines is available on the website as well as a link. Students are to go online and create a Climate Change PicCollage of images they find online and can be displayed on the class Apple TV.

Apps of Interest Please download these two great climate change apps from NASA to your tablets.

It’s free, it’s dazzling and it puts Earth in the palm of your hands
It’s free, it’s dazzling and it puts Earth in the palm of your hands. NASA’s “Earth Now” app displays real-time global satellite data of your planet’s vital signs. Great for students, teachers and anyone interested in Earth science, this 3D app can be your go-to source for carbon dioxide conditions, gravity anomalies, ozone levels over Antarctica and more. Download it to your Apple or Android device to keep your eye on the Earth.
16
Images of change app Human activities, a changing climate and natural disasters are rapidly altering the face of our planet. Both NASA satellites and ground photographers have captured these changes in the form of eye-opening before-and-after images of phenomena ranging from glacial retreat to urbanization. Each image can be viewed side-by-side or with an interactive slider and in context on a world map. Download it for free to your iPhone and iPad to learn about your changing world.
