Symbiosis
2
Symbiosis Symbiosis is a type of community interaction
Symbiosis is a close, long-term relationship between two organisms
3
Types of Symbiosis There are three main types of symbiosis Parasitism: a symbiotic relationship in which one individual is harmed while the other individual benefits Example: A tapeworm living inside a mammal’s digestive tract and absorbing nutrients from what their host eats
4
Types of Symbiosis Mutualism: a symbiotic relationship in which both individuals benefit Example: A bee visits flowers for food in the form of nectar or pollen, while simultaneously carrying pollen from one flower to another allowing for the plants to reproduce
5
Types of Symbiosis Commensalism: a symbiotic relationship in which one individual benefits while the other individual is not affected Example: Cattle egrets hang around Cape buffalos to feed on the insects and lizards that are forced out of their hiding places by the movement of the buffaloes through the grass
