Judah’s evil sons - The importance of the line of the firstborn - Judah’s plan to preserve his last son
Since Rueben, Simeon and Levi were off the firstborn inheritance list, next is Judah. Joseph would actually receive the first born double inheritance (Gen 48:22), Judah would receive the seed promise

From Genesis 38 morally ambiguous at best However Tamar is placed high in Scriptures: Tamar’s credit is wanting to participate in the line - As with Jacob wanting the blessing - It is not the means but the desire that counts

Her husband's brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 6 "It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.

The Calvinist teaches that blessings are signs of righteousness before God. Simply not true

1Ti 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever
Pr 24:27 ¶ Prepare your work outside And make it ready for yourself in the field; Afterwards, then, build your house.
