Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District
By Xavier & Raul

In 1969 Christopher Eckhardt and students of Des Moines planned to protest the Vietnam War by wearing black arm bands and fasting, this resulted in School suspension leading to the students suing the school

It was a form of symbolic protest and the students felt like their freedom of speech was violated by the school

The Supreme court said that the arm bands represented pure speech and its separate from the actions of those who are involved or participated

The court ruled that the students did not lose their right of freedom of speech when they stepped onto school property leading to their first amendment being violated
