2 History of Hodgkin’s Disease
The disease was named after Dr. Thomas Hodgkin. Dr. Hodgkin found several cases of the cancer in the lymph system in 1832. Dr. Thomas Hodgkin

3 People Most Affected By The Disease
The disease is most common in age groups and 55 or over, with the average age being Hodgkin’s Disease occurs rarely in children 5 or under and affects males more than females.

4 Symptoms of Hodgkin’s Disease
Symptoms of the disease include: Swelling in the neck (MOST COMMON) Fever Feeling achy Unintentional weight loss Swollen glands Feeling of tiredness Sweat a lot in general Persistent cough Generalized itching Pain in lymph node (especially after drinking alcohol)

5 Body System Affected by Hodgkin’s Disease
Hodgkin’s Disease affects the lymphatic system, which helps the body fight off disease. The lymph nodes swell as they become cancerous tumors. The cancerous lymphatic system is no longer able to protect the body from other disease.

6 The Cause of Hodgkin’s Disease
Currently, there is not a specific known cause for Hodgkin’s Disease. People with a family history of Hodgkin’s Disease are typically more likely to get it. Scientists do know that the disease is not caused from germs.

7 Treatment and Cures for Hodgkin’s Disease
Chemotherapy (chemo) and Radiation treatment are the main methods of treatment for Hodgkin’s Disease. Treatment is very successful with the overall 5 year survival rate being 86%.

8 Prevention of Hodgkin’s Disease
Since the specific cause of the disease isn’t known, there is nothing a person can do to reduce the likelihood of getting Hodgkin’s Disease. Due to this, regular checkups with a family doctor are important to diagnose the disease early.

9 Daily Life With Hodgkin’s Disease
Living with Hodgkin’s Disease may call for some short-term and long-term changes, some of which may include being homeschooled, giving up sports, or losing hair due to chemotherapy. After successful treatment a person may enjoy normal activities once again.
