Round One way to round a number to a given place value is to look at the digit to the right of the place to which you want to round. If the digit to the right is 4 or less, round down. If the digit to the right is 5 or greater, round up. Examples: The number 23 rounded to the nearest ten is 20. The number 2466 rounded to the nearest hundred is 2500. The number 6.5 rounded to the nearest whole is 7.
