1
Global Range Weather Monitoring Using an Internet of Things
Justin Isabelle
2
Table of Contents Background Problem Statement and Proposed Solution
Project Objectives Budget Estimate Project Schedule
3
Background PSOC (Programmable System- On-Chip)
Made by Cypress Semiconductor Software configured, mixed- signal array with built in microcontroller core IOT (Internet of Things) Flexible platform for interacting with real world objects Makes data from objects accessible through the internet
4
Problem Statement and Proposed Solution
Temperatures in classrooms vary throughout the day Certain times of day may offer unfavorable working conditions A fine grid of data is needed to study these conditions A PSOC based weather monitoring system can be used for data collection Measure classroom, office, cluster
5
Problem Statement and Proposed Solution (2)
Weather forecasts sometimes inaccurate How accurate are long term forecasts versus short term forecasts? A fine grid of data is needed to study the accuracy of weather forecasts PSOC based weather monitoring system can measure environmental data Data can be compared to weather forecast data (long term and short term)
6
Project Objectives Design and implement PSOC based weather monitoring system Collect fine grids of environmental data Understand working conditions in Kingsbury Hall Verify accuracy of local weather forecasts More goals may be added UNH Campus in snow
7
Budget Estimate Most needed materials are readily available (PSOC System, environmental sensing kit) A casing may be needed for environmental protection (Less than $100)

Project Schedule 08/29/12 – Project Selection Completed
08/30/12 – 10/31/12 – Written / Oral Proposal 11/01/12 – 12/17/12 – Work on project; written progress report 12/17/12 – 05/01/12 – Collect and analyze data; final report
