3 TF Passenger Mobility 10 April 2014
Introduction The previous presentation delt with the EU policy need for monitoring urban mobility and medium distance mobility. The current presentation builds on this through the translation of policy objectives into indicator sets, relevant for the monitoring of the status of passenger transport in relation to the identified policy objectives. In particular two objectives from the White Paper Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area are highly relevant for passenger mobility: Objective 1: Halve the use of ‘conventionally-fuelled’ cars in urban transport by 2030; phase them out in cities by 2050; Objective 4: By 2050 the majority of medium-distance passenger transport should go by rail. Other White Paper objectives that are of indirect relevance should also be taken into account (Objectives 8, 9 & 10). TF Passenger Mobility 10 April 2014

4 TF Passenger Mobility 10 April 2014
Introduction The ultimate objective of Eurostat for Passenger Mobility is to: collect and disseminate on a regular basis a set of key most policy-relevent passenger mobility indicators in order to allow different groups of stakeholders - policy makers at European, national and regional level, researchers, academia, etc. and general public - to obtain information that is needed for monitoring of progress towards various policy objectives, be it on a European or a national level. 36 Discussion topics Are all relevant policy objectives on a European level identified and addressed sufficiently? Are all relevant indicators required for monitoring of these policy objectives identified and included? Are all relevant indicators translated into parameters and parameter groupings in a sufficient level to enable data collection? Are there specific concerns in relation to the proposed lists of indicators and their operationalization in parameters and parameters groupings? Would it be feasible for the countries to implement the collection of those indicators if the European Commission could provide methodological and financial assistance for implementing necessary changes to the current national practices and for launching pilot surveys in countries which do not yet have National Travel Surveys? - Thank you for your attention and your comments - TF Passenger Mobility 10 April 2014
