Room 15 News & Notes September 4 – 7, 2018
Mrs. Nakamura (Go to Teacher Pages) Spelling words for our Friday Spelling Tests will always be attached as a word search in the weekly homework packet. Spelling tests will be graded and passed back in student mailboxes the same day. Starting next week, every Monday will be College Day, which means every teacher will wear college clothing. This is to promote college awareness for all our students. If your child has any college gear, please have him/her wear it every Monday. If you haven’t already done so, please purchase a folder for your child to bring home paperwork. If you’d like this newsletter in your , please me! MATH: This week we will be diving deeper into Place Value. We’ll write three-digit numbers (like 324) in unit form (3 hundreds, 2 tens, and 4 ones), standard form (324), expanded form ( ), and word form (three hundred and twenty-four). We will also be drawing and using a place value chart (or what I call the HTO chart) to help us identify the different values in a given number. ELA: Comprehension skill this week: key details. We will discuss how family and friends help eachother. We will read “Little Flap Learns to Fly” and “Help!” to find key details in the stories to support our understanding of the stories. We will write about how these key details help us understand how friends depend on eachother. Sight Words: even, put, there, both, why Vocabulary Words (in the stories): actions, afraid, depend, nervously, peered, perfectly, rescue, secret Word Work: Plurals (-s, -es; busbuses) MONROE SPIRIT DAY is this Friday. Wear your Monroe shirt! BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT will be on Thurs., Sept. 13th. This will also be an early dismissal 1:50pm. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR will be from Sept th in the library. Children may bring money to school to buy books. PICTURE DAY will be on Wed., Oct. 3rd. Say cheese! SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION DAY will be on Sat., Oct. 6th. Come out and help us clean up the school!
