2 Injector Upgrade Project (past R100)
200 kV Must Increase gun voltage and Wien filters for 200kV operation Beam line must be compatible for 200kV (PSS kicker, chopper RF) Locate Wien (energy) filters upstream of pre-buncher cavity avert New SRF booster eliminates capture, RF kick & x/y coupling Other RSR groups are planning system upgrades, needs to be integrated Should NEG coat beam line to limit outgassing, SEY, add a little pumping Upgrade keV quads to manage Wien and dipole focusing Upgrade keV solenoids to address focusing gradient across chopper and beam size Complete diagnostics to setup beam Augment or reconfigure 0L02-0L03 section with MeV solenoids

3 CEBAF Source (2018 SAD) Status
Installed 350kV/4.5mA PS that now sits in tunnel beside Gun2 in SF6 tank Upgraded HVPS software & PSS controls, retained capability to backout to 150kV PS Added two new M20 style BPM’s to the NEG tube just downstream of Gun2 Replaced Gun2 electrode with one including a HV shed (made beam at 180 kV), imparts large kick to the beam orbit. Operated new HVPS and gun successfully for Fall program but requires managing asymmetrical beam Electrode w/ smaller shed to reduce kick designed, fabricated and being polished. What’s next? Commission new electrode at UITF for 200kV and beam quality, install CEBAF 2019 or 2020

4 Critical points for the baked 200kV beamline
200 kV Gun NEG w/ BPM’s (addressed) New single gun Y-chamber 7.5deg (delivered) Repurpose Wien Filters (next slides) Prebuncher after Wiens Upgrade PSS kicker 200kV (need to help PSS group) Retain A1/A2 (drift)

5 Upgrade plan for the 200 kV Wien filter
Wien Upgrade for 100 deg precession Beam Voltage keV 200.00 Integrated BL G-cm Magnet Current A 15.36 Electric Field MV/m 2.67 Electrode High Voltage kV 20.05 Modify existing 130 keV Wien filters for 200 keV operation Magnetic Field Replace 10 A coils with 20 A coils (J. Benesch, JLAB-TN ) Replace 10 A trim with 20 A rack mount supplies Modify steel to accept 20 A coils Electric Field Replace 14 kV supplies with 30 kV power supplies Upgrade feedthroughs Barrel polish electrodes

6 Status of 200 kV Wien Filter Upgrade
Prototype Wien filter installed at UITF Magnetic Field Coils fabricated but multiple iterations (shorts, tight fit), re-evaluate for final Successfully powered to 20A (15A required for 200kV requirement) New 20A supply at UITF (two more ordered for CEBAF), work fine Pair 20A PS ordered for installation at ISB Summer 2019 Electric Field Pair +/-30kV Matsusada PS at UITF w/ new software, good Safety evaluation for x-ray potential in vacuum (60 keV) HV design insufficient for 20kV (makes ~10 kV, FE), re-evaluate E-field design Additional Matsusada PS + controls arrived (staged in ISB) New racks in ISB + controls and HV swtiches at ISB by Summer 2019) Team effort needed to complete design, demonstrate reliable operation and to improve quadrupoles to round up Wien filter optics.

7 Testing CEBAF Upgrade Cryounit at UITF
Upgrade Cryounit Commissioning at Test Lab Spring 2017 – cryostat positioned at UITF Summer 2017 – keV vacuum beam line connected Winter 2018 – application of klystron power

8 Segue to Chopper, Booster and Beyond
Polarized Source Baked Beamline Chopper Booster Beyond How about we continue discussion in the following order ? Scope of work for the Booster section Upgrading solenoids in the chopper (extend same/similar to rest of keV region) Augmenting MeV section with LCW cooled version of solenoid, matching to NL The road before us requires an actionable plan (design, purchases, fabrications, tests) to successfully begin an installation and commissioning period in April 2020.
