2 Practical Assessment Submission Overview
What is a Blog? What is a Forum? Tips for Communicating Online Free Horse Site Video Tutorial Summary References This workbook is brief because the online quiz for this workbook is to submit your blog entries and forum posts. It requires that you use Free-Horse-Site.com to complete the practical components of your course. So to help you understand what is required this workbook clarifies the differences between blogs and forums and refreshes your knowledge of net-etiquette that was covered in H a.

3 What is a Blog? The word “blog” is a combination of letters from the words “web log” as in internet log. Blogs can be part of a website or a website itself. They are the internet equivalent of a journal only people share their opinions and experiences with everyone who visits that website. Free Horse Site ( has blog pages where people can contribute and share their horse related stories and experiences with other members as often as they like. From the blog pages you can read other peoples entries and post comments in reply to their entries. To access the blog at Free Horse Site you need to sign up to be a member (which is free). Once you are a member blogs can be accessed by moving the mouse cursor over the “Explore” tab from which a drop down menu will appear.

4 What is a Forum? Forums are sometimes also called discussions and are a place where people can communicate over the internet by placing and replying to messages (known as “threads”). Forums often have topics or categories of discussions for example a forum on horse health will contain communications about anything related to the health of horses. Free Horse Site also has forums with numerous different horse related discussions. Once again you need to be a member but once signed up the forums are accessed from the “Explore” tab in the drop down menu.

5 Tips for Communicating Online
Remember to follow “net-etiquette” (from the H a workbook) when posting or replying to threads and when contributing to blogs. It is easy to forget that there will be people on the other side of the computer screen who will read what you contribute to blogs and forums so as a general rule if you wouldn’t make a comment to their face don’t post it on the internet. Net-etiquette for consideration:- Respect copyright Respect other people’s privacy Respect other’s time and bandwidth Do not abuse your power Use correct spelling and grammar Follow any site-specific or discussion group net-etiquette, protocols and rules Be forgiving of other users mistakes Discourage and avoid personal attacks on others Posts or threads that contain offensive or unsuitable material will be removed by moderators. A moderator is a person who manages and organises the forums and are assigned by forum owners (website manager). For more information about contributing to online communications on Free Horse Site follow the “Terms” link at the bottom left of the website.
