4 Key Decision Makers Attendee demographics Number of attendees

5 Replace with FinNext Numbers or omit this information?

6 General Content Guides
DO DON’T Focus on education Pitch your company, products or services Focus on tactics and strategy, not the product Deliver content as described in the program Create “takeaway slides”

7 Sales Policy DO DON’T Direct attendees to your booth
Pitch your company, products or services – your goal is education Let people know your company and your biography Substitute your corporate PowerPoint format Play commercials during presentation

8 Supporting Materials Through the app only; nothing handed out in-session Submit material to AFP in advance for approval Examples: Additional resources for further study Large pictures of complex graphics /slides Checklists Relevant articles, blog postings, etc.

9 Tips to Engage the Audience
It doesn’t hurt to have fun! Use a story / anecdote / example Audience polls Include actionable take-aways Rehearse

10 Polling Tool AFP: Presenter: Audience:
Sets up the poll in the AFP event app Insert a “poll slide” in deck Presenter: Selects poll “widget” in the presentation Audience: Open poll in their device to participate

11 Time Management Rehearse – yourself and/or with co-presenters
Panel sessions: hold discussion beforehand Set “time-markers” “I should be at slide 15 after 30 minutes” Leave time for questions

12 How Many Slides? 5 slides / hour Too slow? Not enough information?
(May be OK for a panel) 30 slides / hour About right, depending on your style 60 slides / hour Too fast? Too much information?

13 Slide Tips Reminder: Audience is 30 – 100 feet from screen
Presentation should stand alone Don’t read every word

14 Slide Tips Too Much Text!!!
This slide has too many words on it: PowerPoint has automatically adjusted the font size to near-invisibility at 50 fee Your audience is looking to receive your wisdom and expertise, not an eyestrain headache The use of white space provides emphasis and makes the points you are trying to convey stand out better If there isn’t any white space the mass of pure text becomes incomprehensible Your audience can’t read from a distance; they can only skim the content at best and bullet points help them do that much more effectively (it’s called “chunking” the content) Too Much Text!!!

15 Slide Tips How much text? Less than 7 words per point
Less than 7 points per slide …unless you really have to

16 Diagrams Use animation / builds to convey a process
Avoid complex diagrams Simplify for on-screen Complex slides available in the take-away

17 Take-aways Education, not sales Uphold the description Prepare
Manage time Tell a story Have fun!
