DO NOW What is photosynthesis? What are the steps involved? Date: 2/10
Q: How do plants respond to their environment? What is photosynthesis? What are the steps involved? Be prepared to share out!

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How do plants respond to their environment? OBJECTIVES: -Dichotomous Key SCA -Grade Test -Secret Life of Plants

DO NOW How do plants get water? How does the water get to the leaves?
Date: 2/11 Q: How do plants respond to their environment? How do plants get water? How does the water get to the leaves?

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How do plants respond to their environment? OBJECTIVES: -Observe Xylem in Celery -Define Xylem -Prepare Seeds for Sprouting

Xylem

Define Xylem Xylem: a tissue in plants that is used to transport water and nutrients to different parts of the plant. Turgor Pressure: the internal pressure of a cell created by the presence of water. High Turgor Pressure Low Turgor Pressure Plant Cell

Planting Seeds One bag per pair Name and Class Period on Bag

What Plants Talk About

DO NOW Date: 2/11 & 2/12 Describe how water enters and leaves a plant.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How do plants respond to their environment? OBJECTIVES: -Set up Seed Lab to observe plants’ response to stimuli -Rotate through plant stations to review photosynthesis and response to stimuli.

Xylem and Phloem: Plant Vessels

BRAINPOP Seed Plants

(Draw how you think the plant will look after 2 weeks)
Page 25 Create a chart as follows: *You may draw the chart in your page sideways. Prediction Day 1 After 1 week After 2 weeks (Draw how you think the plant will look after 2 weeks) (Draw your seed set up) (We will draw our observations next week) (We will draw our observations in two weeks.)

Seed Set Up Student A: Get a sandwich bag, 3 seeds, and stapler
Student B: Get a paper towel and wet it just enough so that it is not dripping Student C: Insert the paper towel into the bag and staple seeds into place. Student D: Label your bag with the class period and table # and take the bag to the wall and staple it.

Plant Stations Lab 4 Stations 1. photosynthesis 2. turgor pressure
3. xylem and phloem 4. adaptions Do not rotate until told to do so by your teacher Follow proper lab rules and protocol

Brain Break?

VIDEO What do plants talk about?

DO NOW Date: 2/12 Why might we want to selectively breed plants?

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What are the benefits and drawback of selectively breeding plants? OBJECTIVES: -”The Chocolate Curse” podcast and response

VIDEO How Chocolate is made.

“The Chocolate Curse” podcast

Work with your table to fill in the graphic organizer on your student sheet, then answer the questions.
