1 Project 1: Investigating the Value versus Cost of Privacy in the Internet of Things REU Student: Alex Mayle Graduate mentors: Sina Masnadi and Safa Bacanli Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Turgut and Dr. Wisniewski Week 4 (June, 13 – 17) Accomplishments: Came up with an implementation strategy Finished the important parts of “Android Security Internals,” and read a good bit of “Embedded Android.” Successfully built Android for the Nexus 5x target

2 Project 1: Investigating the Value of Information versus Cost of Privacy in the Internet of Things REU Student: Alex Mayle Graduate mentors: Sina Masnadi and Safa Bacanli Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Turgut and Dr. Wisniewski Issues/problems encountered and solutions (if any): Turns out building Android for a particular device is MUCH harder than building it for the emulator, which I had done in Week 2. I’ve literally built Android 6 times this week, with varying degrees of success. The Nexus 5x needs some proprietary code to run, so I have to “merge” it with my build Plans for next week: Get my build to run on the Nexus 5x device Researched a way to incrementally build the OS and put it on the drive in about 30 seconds, so I’d like to implement that. Start writing code.
