The Temple He Builds 1 Peter 2:4-5
3
Context: 2 Samuel 7, 1 Kings 8, and 1 Chronicles 28 detail David’s desire to build a temple for the Lord, but the Lord’s promise to accomplish this through his posterity. The true Son of God who builds the Lord’s House is Jesus, and that work is happening right now.
4
The Lord’s Temple is PEOPLE who have been unified with Christ who, as the Cornerstone, has joined the faithful from the Old Covenant to those who will believe in Him under the New Covenant into one people of holy purposes. God’s Temple is a PLURAL, not an INDIVIDUAL God’s Temple is UNIFIED, not UNIFORM
5
God’s Temple is built on a single foundation of FAITH IN CHRIST ALONE, not works or bloodlines. Not by lawkeeping or ethnicity, but personal faith in Him. All pride or self-justification because of family honor or personal accomplishment is set aside to join the priceless achievement of Christ.
6
God’s Temple, with its living stones and collective priesthood that is offering their lives just as the Cornerstone and High Priest did, is something the people of its context are always meant to know is there for them. God’s Temple is visible in His world God’s Temple was available to His world
