1 Defensive Planning for Quick In-Game Adjustments

2 Why plan ahead to adjust defensively?
react to an opponent who is: winning (close or not so close), losing (close or not so close) affect and dictate the style and speed of play to make an offense figure out the defense instead of controlling play

3 Keep it diverse! Mix up slide packages in drills to prepare for in-game use slide ONLY adjacent for 4 v 4, then crease slide for 5 v 4 Use drills to “make life difficult” Make the defense (and the offense) THINK!

4 Drill to build fundamentals and a “database”
dummy slide drills to work on technique and repetition of slide packages defending “X” drill stress proper on ball technique man on ball needs to defend according to slide package AJ slide - push him to alley crease/cross-crease slide - drive him inside alternate slide location add in 2nd slides and recovery

5 Variations we use . . . Typical slides . . . crease adjacent
cross crease Mixing 1st and 2nd slides Slide variations no slide ghost show

6 Final Thoughts . . .
