1 1.6 – Variables on Both Sides
Textbook pg. 102 Objective: The student will solve equations with variables on both sides in order to identify an unknown variable and equations that are identities or have no solution.

2 Types of Solutions ONE SOLUTION: equation with 1 true answer
NO SOLUTIONS: equation with no true answer INFINITE SOLUTIONS: equations where any real number is a true answer (“identities”)

3 1) 6𝑦+21+7=4𝑦−20+5𝑦 2) 5𝑥−2=3𝑥−2

4 3) 5 𝑥−6 =3𝑥−18+2𝑥 4) 3 2−3𝑥 =−7𝑥−2(𝑥−3)

5 Word Problem! Rentals Plus charges $50 per day to rent a car plus a $20 fee for gas. Rent-a-Wheels does not have a gas fee but instead charges $90 per day to rent a car. For how many days could you rent the car for the same price at each company?
